For EXPO Chicago, Anat Ebgi presents new lightbox works from Jibade-Khalil Huffman and sculptures of Jason Bailer Losh.
Jibade-Khalil Huffman’s (b. 1981, Detroit) photo-based and moving-image works are experiments relating archives and collage to memory and language, particular to race and semiotics. The lightbox works for EXPO Chicago are assembled from layering scanned fragments of original photographs, and found sources, heavily manipulated with graphic and figurative overlays. In his subtle installation of one still and one moving-image pieces, movement and narrative are suggested through illumination. Recent and upcoming solo exhibitions include KMAC Museum, Louisville, KY; Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, TX; Locust Projects, Miami, FL; and The Kitchen, New York, NY.
Jason Bailer Losh (b. 1977, Iowa) works with everyday materials, repurposed into sculptural configurations, both formal and jocose. Accessible and familiar, these intricate assemblages recall their tactility and functionality through craft, yet allow for new connotations within each finalized, unique assemblage, often bearing a cast patina or finish. For EXPO, Bailer Losh will also feature flat works which still embrace tactility through incorporation of concrete stains, India ink and wax.
