Born in 1970. Lives and works in Stockholm and New York.
Sandstrom’s striking acrylic compositions evoke a fragmented version of the landscapes of her native Scandinavia. The motifs are abstract, geometric, and layered to reflect jagged mountain ranges and seascapes. Sandstrom is describes her interest in "how space—specifically landscape—is understood as a concept, a physical site, and as an emotional experience." Her new paintings shift from sensitive and sensual landscapes depicted abstractly towards the experience and construction of spaces with conceptual clarity. Sandstrom imposes her own definitions of physical and emotional experience through striking color and shapes.
Sandström is the 2008 recipient of The Joan Mitchell Foundation: Painters & Sculptors Grant as well as the 2008 John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, New York, NY.
