Born in 1979. Lives and works in Upstate New York.
Hansen’s work displays as a basement laboratory of elegantly blown colored glass. The tastefulness of the blown glass sculptures juxtapose the accompanying materials such as rough-cut wood, rubber tubing, and light bulbs, that appear from the trash. This contrast creates a dialogue between the objects about the status of the precious and the discarded. Hansen abstracts the ready-made through subtle details that show the hand of the artist. Elias Hansen has participated in exhibitions at Balice Hertling, Paris; Maccarone, New York; and Jonathan Viner Gallery, London, who also presented a solo show of his work at Basel LISTE, June 2013.
